Privacy Policy

How we collect, use, store, and protect your information. We do not sell your personal data.

Effective date: May 1, 2026 · Last updated: May 1, 2026

1. Who we are

CancelSolar.org ("CancelSolar," "we," "us," or "our") is an educational consumer-advocacy resource , with offices at 610 E Zack St. Suite 110 #4017, Tampa, FL 33602. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle personal information collected through our website, phone calls, emails, and forms.

We are not a law firm. We refer eligible homeowners to independent law firms; this Privacy Policy does not cover the privacy practices of those firms.

2. Information we collect

You provide directly

  • Contact information: name, email, phone, mailing address.
  • Eligibility information: contract type (lease, loan, PPA), state, year of installation, issues you've experienced.
  • Documents: if you choose to upload them, copies of your solar contract, statements, sales materials, or correspondence.
  • Communications: messages you send us by email, contact form, or phone (calls may be recorded with notice for quality and training).
  • Consent records: the consents you provide (terms, SMS, marketing) and the date/time you provided them.

Collected automatically

  • Device & usage: IP address, browser type, OS, pages viewed, referring URL, timestamps.
  • Cookies: first- and third-party cookies for analytics and basic functionality (see Section 6).

3. How we use information

  • To respond to inquiries and provide the eligibility-review service you requested.
  • To evaluate your situation and, if appropriate, refer you to an independent law firm — only with your consent.
  • To send transactional communications (case updates, confirmations) by email, phone, or SMS (if separately opted in).
  • To send marketing communications — only if you have separately opted in. You may revoke this consent at any time.
  • To maintain and improve the website and our services.
  • To comply with legal obligations and protect our rights.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share phone numbers with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

  • Network law firms: when you affirmatively choose to have your case referred, we share the information necessary to enable that firm to evaluate your case.
  • Service providers: companies that help us operate the website and services (e.g., hosting, email delivery, SMS messaging, analytics) under contractual confidentiality obligations.
  • Legal compliance: if required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights and safety.
  • Business transfers: in the event of merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to confidentiality and notice.
SMS opt-in data is never shared. Phone numbers and SMS opt-in consent are not shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing purposes under any circumstances. This is a hard rule.

5. SMS / text messaging

This section governs all text-message communications from CancelSolar.org. Our complete SMS terms are available at /sms-terms.

How you opt in

SMS consent is collected only through an affirmative, opt-in checkbox on the eligibility form. The checkbox is never pre-selected. Opt-in to SMS is not a condition of obtaining any service from CancelSolar.org. We operate a single, transactional SMS program:

  • Case & request updates — messages directly related to your eligibility review or active case (status updates, document requests, appointment reminders, attorney referral confirmations). Frequency: as needed, typically 1–6 messages per active case.

We do not operate a marketing or promotional SMS program. We will not send you recurring promotional, educational, or newsletter texts.

How you opt out

Reply STOP to any text message to be unsubscribed immediately. Reply HELP for help. You may also email [email protected] to be removed from any messaging list.

Costs

Message and data rates may apply, depending on your wireless plan. We do not charge for messages we send.

Carriers

Carriers (including but not limited to AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, US Cellular) are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

6. Cookies & tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for: (a) basic website functionality, (b) analytics (understanding how the site is used), and (c) measuring the effectiveness of our advertising. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some features.

We do not use cross-site tracking pixels to share your phone number or SMS opt-in status with third-party advertisers.

7. Security & retention

We use commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and secure document storage. No system is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide our services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. SMS consent records are retained for at least four years from your last opt-in for compliance purposes.

8. Your rights

Depending on your state of residence, you may have rights to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion of your information.
  • Opt out of marketing communications (any time, free of charge).
  • Withdraw consent for SMS at any time by replying STOP.

To exercise these rights, contact [email protected]. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.

California residents: The CCPA gives you specific rights regarding your personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined by the CCPA. You have the right to know, delete, and not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.

9. Children

Our services are not directed to individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have, we will delete it.

10. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes affecting how we use your information will be communicated by email or in-product notice when reasonably possible.
